Jiaxing port zone pushes hydrogen shipping toward service
In China, Sina Finance reports that Jiaxing port zone has moved a hydrogen fueled container vessel closer to commercial service after the Dongfang Qinggang completed a long distance inland voyage test to Hangzhou’s Xiasha port, giving the Zhejiang hub a live demonstration of hydrogen shipping beyond the pilot stage.
The 64 TEU vessel, described as the country’s first inland hydrogen fuel cell powered container ship of its kind, sailed 83.7 kilometers in about eight hours and berthed at berth 6 on March 17. The test was designed to check range, power stability and hydrogen consumption under actual operating conditions before regular service begins.
Built as a 2,000 ton class inland container ship, the vessel was completed on December 1, 2025, after trials and class certification. It carries two Guohong hydrogen fuel cell systems, a designed hydrogen storage capacity of 550 kilograms and a stated range of more than 380 kilometers.
The voyage also landed just after Beijing issued a new hydrogen application pilot notice, giving Jiaxing port zone fresh policy cover for its effort to turn local industrial hydrogen supply into shipboard use.
