Guangxi yard begins methanol, battery and LNG hybrid vessel builds
In China, China News reports that Guangxi shipbuilder Guiping Hongxin Ship Repair and Building on March 25 launched a batch of methanol, pure electric and LNG hybrid vessels and signed cooperation agreements covering 19 new energy ships with three companies, marking a move into cleaner inland shipbuilding for the region.
The signing covered three projects across the three propulsion tracks. Of the 19 vessels, 12 formally entered construction with total investment of 224 million yuan, while another seven were signed as intended orders with total planned investment of 112 million yuan.
The batch includes eight methanol powered feeder vessels, nine pure electric bulk carriers for the Pinglu Canal and two LNG hybrid oil and chemical tankers. The report said all 19 are the first vessels of their kind in Guangxi.
Hongxin, one of Guangxi’s main private shipbuilders, has been expanding into new energy vessel construction as shipping along the Xijiang waterway shifts toward cleaner propulsion. The company said it has worked with partners including Zichai Power to advance green and intelligent ship technology.
