Jeonbuk ties Gunsan shipyard restart to AI, hydrogen and repair work
In Korea, News 1 reports Jeonbuk State on March 25 set out a plan to turn the restart of Gunsan shipyard into a broader industrial relaunch, linking the site to AI based shipbuilding, alternative fuel testing and vessel repair.
Governor Kim Kwan-young said the province wants the yard to move beyond producing ship sections and components and return to building completed vessels, with a target of sending finished ships out of Gunsan port by 2028. Jeonbuk tied that push to a marine mobility AI project worth about $16.8 million, due by 2028, an alternative fuel propulsion test platform worth about $11.3 million scheduled for completion this year, and an unmanned marine systems testbed due next year.
The province also said it plans to connect the yard with the Wanju hydrogen cluster and Saemangeum hydrogen production base, giving the shipyard a role in future hydrogen and ammonia vessel work.
