Indian shipbuilder SDHI wins ammonia dual-fuel bulk carrier order
In India, Swan Defence and Heavy Industries has signed a contract with Energy ONE Limited to build four 92,500 deadweight ton ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers, the first such vessels to be built in India and among the largest commercial ships ever constructed at an Indian shipyard.
The vessels, each 229.5 meters long, will be equipped with ammonia-fueled propulsion systems, designed by South Korea’s KMS-EMEC and classed by DNV. The first is due for delivery in October 2029, with subsequent vessels following at four-month intervals.
Energy ONE is the general partner of New Energy One, a Jersey-registered investment fund with a two billion dollar program to invest in zero-emission ships, which has also signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s Sagarmala Finance Corp to co-invest in green shipping projects.
