Guangzhou expands green methanol bunkering to vehicle carriers

October 22, 2026 |

In China, Guangzhou Port completed its first methanol bunkering of a vehicle carrier Oct. 16 at Nansha Automobile Terminal, supplying 2,300 metric tons of methanol, including 1,400 tons of bonded green methanol, to the dual fuel Guang Rong, according to the Guangzhou Port Authority.

The 7,800 vehicle capacity carrier subsequently departed for Europe carrying more than 4,300 vehicles, including 2,000 XPeng electric vehicles, with scheduled calls in Spain and Belgium.

Guangzhou claims to be the world’s first port to have completed green methanol bunkering for container ships, bulk carriers and vehicle carriers. The latest operation follows green methanol bunkering of an international bulk carrier and a container ship in September, covering both anchorage and berth operations.
