In China, the Guangzhou Port Authority brought hydrogen supplier Guangdong Yuntao together with more than 10 shipowners planning new vessels on July 10 to review hydrogen propulsion technology, regulations, subsidies and project economics ahead of fleet investment decisions.

Participants included Guangdong Provincial Port and Shipping Group, Guangzhou Port Shipping and Guangzhou Yuanhai Car Carrier. The session covered hydrogen supply chains, propulsion systems, operating examples, comparisons with other marine power options and national subsidies for replacing older ships.

The authority said the meeting was intended to connect technology providers with vessel operators and support Guangzhou’s green shipping plans. It will continue developing hydrogen vessel projects and accelerate planned demonstrations.
