Grain production record expected in India, FAS says
In India, World Grain reported that grain production in India for the 2025-26 marketing year is estimated at a record 376.6 million tons, as new highs in output are expected in rice, wheat and corn, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.
“Timely, adequate and well distributed 2025 monsoon and generally favorable weather conditions across the country during the crop year supported higher planting and yields,” the FAS said.
Most notably, corn production is estimated to increase by an “unprecedented” 27% year on year to a record 55.09 million tons, according to the report.
India, which historically restricts grain exports when food security is threatened but now has adequate stocks, is projected to export 2.4 million tons of corn this marketing year, quadrupling the total from the 2024-25 season, the FAS said.
