French designer creates biobased “brainstorming” stool
In France, designer Germain Verbrackel has come up with a cork stool that doubles as a mobile brainstorming kit. Called The Bulb, the lightweight seat has a built-in compartment for markers, sticky notes, papers and notebooks, allowing teams to take their creative supplies wherever they decide to work. The opening also serves as a handle, so the stool and its contents can be carried together.
The piece is made from compressed cork and designed to be computer numerical control-milled with a robotic arm, giving it a smooth, sculptural shape without conventional assembly. Its name comes from the silhouette: viewed from above, the stool resembles a lightbulb, with the seat forming the bulb and the storage section acting as the base.
