EXMAR’s Antwerpen completes first commercial voyage powered by ammonia
In India, EXMAR’s ammonia-powered midsize gas carrier Antwerpen arrived at Paradip on July 14, completing the first commercial voyage by an oceangoing ammonia powered ship. Antwerpen left Nanjing, China on June 27 after loading its cargo of over 30,000 tonnes of ammonia.
EXMAR said the propulsion system performed in line with the vessel’s design and the company’s expectations throughout the voyage. The company and its partners will continue fine-tuning the system based on the operational experience.
The 190-meter vessel can carry up to 46,000 cubic meters of ammonia or liquefied petroleum gas. It was developed with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, WinGD, Nord Gas Solutions and Lloyd’s Register and is the lead vessel in a four-ship series for EXMAR.
