EnBW inaugurates 5MW hydropower-fed hydrogen plant in Germany
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW) and naturenergie hochrhein have inaugurated another plant for the production of hydrogen in the research project Reallabor H2-Wyhlen.
The expansion has an electrical output of five megawatts (MW) and complements the existing 1 MW plant. The site thus has one of the largest production capacities for hydrogen in southern Germany. Both plants generate hydrogen with electricity from the neighboring hydroelectric power plant and are to supply industrial and mobility customers in the region in the future, according to the report.
“Hydrogen is an important building block for an energy system with a high proportion of renewable energies. EnBW already relies on flexible, hydrogen-capable power plants for this purpose. In the future, these will complement renewables and thus secure the power supply even in the dark and in the dark,” said Wolfram Münch, Head of Research and Development at EnBW.
