CMA CGM vessel bunkers 3,600 tons of biomethanol in Shanghai
In China, with more than 3,600 tons of biomethanol bunkered, the CMA CGM OSMIUM has become the first vessel in the fleet to run on biomethanol – a low-carbon fuel offering lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reductions of 65% compared with conventional marine fuels.
She was bunkered at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port, in what also turned out to be the largest single biomethanol bunkering operation ever carried out at a Chinese port. A major milestone in the company’s journey toward Net Zero Carbon by 2050, together with partners Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd (SIPG Energy) and Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd, they are building a biomethanol supply chain designed to deliver at scale.
