China detected irregularities in 80% of soybean shipments from Uruguay in 2025

March 22, 2026 |

In Argentina, Ambito reported that China’s health authority detected irregularities in 80% of Uruguay’s soybean exports during 2025,

The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) pledged to strengthen controls to ensure compliance with phytosanitary requirements, at a time when there is concern about the drop in production of this crop due to the drought and its potential impact on sales, according to the report.

The report noted that the Chinese government notified about quarantine weeds established in the current phytosanitary protocol, as well as about quarantine weeds regulated for that destination whose absence constitutes a mandatory requirement in import phytosanitary inspections.

The MGAP indicated that “strengthening controls at origin and the pre-export certification process will ensure that grains destined for the People’s Republic of China strictly comply with the phytosanitary requirements established by that authority.”

Furthermore, it will strengthen the monitoring mechanisms for agricultural products destined for export, “in order to safeguard safety, phytosanitary requirements, the country’s reputation as a reliable supplier and the continuity of bilateral trade.”
