China demonstrates commercial green ammonia supply chain with CMB.TECH bunkering
In China, the world’s first ship-to-ship green ammonia bunkering operation delivered 1,000 metric tons of fuel produced at China Energy Engineering’s Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park project to CMB.TECH’s Mineral Europa at Zhoushan Oct. 13, China National Radio reports.
The fuel traveled through a supply chain involving overland transportation and port storage before the dedicated ammonia bunkering vessel Shenghang Yongle transferred it at Xiushan East Anchorage. The Belgian company’s ammonia-powered bulk carrier subsequently departed for Australia.
“This proves that China has the capability to produce green ammonia on a large scale that meets international standards,” said Li Jingguang, chairman of China Energy Engineering’s hydrogen subsidiary.
Li said the operation demonstrated a replicable commercial supply model connecting fuel production, transportation, storage, bunkering and use aboard oceangoing vessels, moving beyond earlier experimental and small demonstration projects.
