Bleriot sees Kenyan SAF production starting In 2027
In New York, Aviation Week reported that Kenyan startup Bleriot Group is gearing up its SAF production operation this year with a view to manufacturing SAF in commercial quantities in the East African nation in 2027.
Bleriot CEO Serguei Poppeleer said that the company is aiming for its biofuels manufacturing operation to come on stream as Kenya brings in new petroleum laws expected in 2026 that promote and mandate the production of biofuels in the first place, with laws doing the same for SAF to follow. He expects neighbors Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi to follow suit.
As a first step, Kenya is looking to introduce a mandate requiring air operators to blend just 1% of SAF with regular jet fuel. “We are at a very interesting moment in East Africa as the demand signal created by government policy on SAF is essential for it to happen,” he said.
The company has produced small quantities of SAF using its pilot reactor at its plant in southern Kenya but is investing in a second-generation reactor that is more efficient, which is planned to come on stream by year-end, Poppeleer added.
