Balena claims world’s first bioplastic frisbee
In the United Kingdom, materials science company Balena and startup studio Decathlon Pulse have created the world’s first frisbee made from biobased plastic. Made using Balena’s proprietary BioCir® X material, the frisbee is durable enough for your most extreme Ultimate Frisbee match but would biodegrade if it made its way into the ocean, compost, or soil. The material is also compatible with the injection molding process, allowing for easier adoption by thermoformers.
“Breaking into the sports industry with a product that’s both high-performance and fully circular is a proud moment for us at Balena,” Balena founder and CEO David Roubach told Green Prophet. “This frisbee, made from our bacteria-fermented bioplastic, is proof that sustainable materials can go beyond concepts and prototypes, they can play, perform, and inspire.”
