Baden-Württemberg launches green hydrogen funding call

February 26, 2026 |

In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg is putting $59 million on the table for green hydrogen production projects in a second application round, as it tries to deepen local supply chains and accelerate deployment.

The state government in Baden-Württemberg is pushing ahead with a new round of electrolysis projects to kick-start a regional hydrogen economy, according to the report.

Environment and Energy Minister Thekla Walker, said: “This is a first milestone for the regional hydrogen economy. The eight new plants will more than double the state’s current production capacity, yet they will still only meet a fraction of what industry is already asking for.”

Baden-Württemberg has allocated $55.3 million for the eight schemes, a move that is expected to trigger almost $191 million of total investment, according to the Environment Ministry. The funded projects are spread across the state and reflect a mix of industrial use cases and municipal infrastructure, according to the report.
