Argentine Senate sends bill for biodiesel blend and SAF to House

October 14, 2026 |

In Argentina, La Nación reports the Senate approved and turned to the House last month a bill that seeks to establish a new regulatory framework for biofuels that raises the cut-off quota in a transitional regime until 2036, when free competition in the market should be released. In the vote in general he divided the venue transversally and finished with 41 votes in favor and 25 against.

The project declares in the public interest the manufacture, storage, mixing, marketing and self-consumption of biofuels throughout the national territory. One of its fundamental operating engines is to set mandatory and staggered increases in mixing percentages with traditional fossil fuels. In the case of diesel or diesel, the rule establishes a mandatory initial minimum cut of 7.5% biodiesel, a quota that will be raised to 10% after twelve months after the enactment of the law. It also allows for the deregulation of the use and commercialization of complementary renewable energies, such as biomethane for pipeline injection and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
