AP Moller-Maersk’s renewable fuel consumption dropped by half in 2025

May 21, 2026 |

In Denmark, Ship and Bunker reports AP Moller-Maersk significantly reduced its renewable fuel consumption in 2025, with usage falling to 1,524 GWh from 3,034 GWh the previous year. The decline marked the company’s lowest renewable fuel use since at least 2021. Renewable fuels include green methanol and biofuels, though Maersk indicated increased reliance on grey methanol contributed to the drop. Based on conversion estimates, the company consumed no more than about 275,000 metric tons of methanol last year, likely less due to biofuel inclusion. The reduction highlights ongoing challenges in scaling cleaner marine fuel adoption.
