AET Tankers orders ethanol-ready shuttle tanker for 2028

February 19, 2026 |

In Singapore, AET Tankers said it has signed a deal with Dalian Shipbuilding to build its first hybrid electric dynamic positioning shuttle tanker, a Suezmax vessel equipped with an electric energy storage system and designed to be dual-fuel ethanol ready, with delivery projected in 2028 under a long-term charter.

The tanker will expand AET’s dynamic positioning shuttle fleet, which numbers 17 vessels deployed across Brazil and Norway, serving offshore fields in the North Sea, Barents Sea, and off Brazil. Shuttle tankers load crude directly from floating production units and carry it to shore, a trade that depends on precise station-keeping and operational resilience in harsh conditions.

The newbuild strengthens AET’s position in a segment where it already operates one of the world’s largest DPST fleets. By adding hybrid electric propulsion and ethanol readiness, the company is widening fuel options for offshore crude transport while continuing its strategy of building dual-fuel capability across its tanker portfolio.
