Port of Santos begins regular ethanol bunkering for CMA CGM

October 28, 2026 |

In Brazil, the Port of Santos began regular ethanol bunkering Oct. 19, supplying the 13,000 TEU CMA CGM IRON with ethanol from Copersucar in an operation supported by marine fuel marketer Bunker One that “opens a new global destination market for fuel,” according to Copersucar President Tomás Manzano.

The container ship features the world’s first ethanol certified tri-fuel engine from Everllence. Following an initial operation in July, additional CMA CGM bunkerings are planned before year-end, the Santos Port Authority announced Oct. 23.

“We are now moving to a new phase, demonstrating that ethanol can be incorporated into maritime operations in a safe, reliable and commercial scale,” said Giovani Grassi, CEO of CMA CGM Brazil.

“Brazil has known the potential of ethanol for decades. Now, we are taking this experience to international navigation, combining Brazilian production capacity with Bunker One’s experience and global coverage,” said Flavio Ribeiro, CEO of Bunker One LatAm.
