NYK and K Line plan integrated ammonia fuel supply chain
In Japan, NYK Line and Kawasaki Kisen announced plans Oct. 27 to establish a commercial green ammonia supply chain in the Chubu region, combining fuel procurement, bunkering infrastructure and four ammonia powered car carriers scheduled for completion in 2030, according to a joint release published by NYK.
Each shipping company will operate two vessels equipped with dual fuel engines and sufficient ammonia storage to cross the Pacific using ammonia alone, transporting vehicles for customers including Toyota.
JERA will procure green ammonia from sources including India and develop loading facilities near its Hekinan power plant.
A dedicated ammonia bunkering vessel will deliver fuel directly to ships, primarily at Nagoya and Mikawa ports, through a joint fuel sales venture.
