GCMD and Equinor form maritime decarbonization partnership
In Singapore, the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation and Equinor announced a five-year partnership combining GCMD’s shipboard pilot programs with Equinor’s chartering, marine fuel and low-carbon project experience to address technical and operational barriers to alternative fuels and other shipping decarbonization technologies.
GCMD is testing biofuels, ammonia and methanol, focusing on safe bunkering and handling as well as systems to verify fuel quantity, quality and greenhouse gas reductions. Equinor has chartered LNG, LPG and methanol dual-fuel tankers, tested biofuels, supplied methanol and is piloting ammonia as a marine fuel.
The partnership will also examine energy-efficiency technologies and onboard carbon capture, areas where GCMD has conducted operational trials and Equinor brings experience in offshore carbon storage.
