Towngas calls for Hong Kong green methanol bunkering push
In China, Hong Kong utility Towngas urged the Hong Kong government to improve green methanol bunkering facilities and create a dedicated Energy Office under the Special Administrative Region’s first Five Year Plan for 2026–2030. The company submitted proposals across eight areas to accelerate the commercial use of hydrogen, green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.
Towngas recommended coordinating energy policy through the new office while developing Hong Kong as a green fuels trading, certification and finance hub. Its shipping proposal centers on expanding port infrastructure for green methanol bunkering.
The company also called for hydrogen and methanol power units to replace diesel generators at construction sites and for integrated transportation energy stations offering charging, battery swapping, conventional fuels, hydrogen and methanol.
