Licella and Quadrise advance bio-oil marine fuel testing
In Australia, Licella and Quadrise amended their joint development agreement to move hydrothermal liquefaction bio-oil toward marine diesel engine testing in the second half of 2026.
Licella’s Cat-HTR technology converts forestry residues, agricultural waste and other biomass into bio-oil. Quadrise is evaluating the material as a feedstock for its bioMSAR and bioMSAR Zero marine fuels.
Laboratory testing in Australia and the UK has helped the companies identify further work needed before engine trials. Final testing of refined Licella bio-oils is planned for the second half of 2026, followed by initial marine diesel engine pilot testing.
Successful pilot work would lead to third-party engine tests required before commercial vessel trials. Licella will provide bio-oil production expertise and Quadrise will contribute marine fuel development and market access.
