Hainan completes first BD100 bunkering

August 6, 2026 |

In China, China News Network reports Hainan province completed its first biodiesel bunkering operation on July 27 at Basuo Port in Dongfang, supplying 10 tonnes of BD100 to the port tug Bagang Tuo 8.

The event banner identifies the fuel as BD100, or 100% biodiesel. The Basuo Maritime Bureau said biodiesel can sharply reduce sulfur oxide and particulate emissions, significantly lower lifecycle carbon emissions and produce almost no black carbon compared with conventional marine fuel.

Bureau officials plan to expand the use of biodiesel, green methanol and other clean marine fuels at western Hainan ports.
