Denmark’s Ambu introduces bioplastic blades for laryngoscopy
In Denmark, single-use endoscopy supplier Ambu has expanded its recycling program to include bioplastic single-use blades for its SureSight video laryngoscopy solution. Laryngoscopy is a type of endoscopy that focuses on the vocal cords and upper respiratory tract.
In 2024, Ambu introduced bioplastics in the handles of its single-use endoscopes. In 2025, it launched the Ambu Recircle Program, giving hospitals a structured, compliant way to collect and process used endoscopes for new, non-medical purposes. With the addition of Ambu’s video laryngoscope blades, Ambu now broadens its recycling scope across clinical practice.
The program currently operates in about 50 hospital sites and over 140 clinical departments across Germany, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Ambu expects to further introduce the program to two more countries during 2026 and has set the high ambition to collect more than 1 million medical devices and implement 50% circular materials in its endoscopes by 2030.
