Cat’s out of the Lab: Study finds felines preferred BeneMeat’s cultivated hamster meat over chicken
In the Czech Republic, a feline feeding trial has found that cats preferred cultivated hamster meat produced by BeneMeat over conventional chicken. The hamster meat was also well-digested by the cats. Conducted by Ghent University and BeneMeat, the study was a double-blind crossover acceptance test that included 10 cats. The researchers reported strong acceptance in 9 of 10 cats, with 17 of 18 meals eaten in full.
“This study represents an important step in evaluating cultivated ingredients for pet nutrition under standardized feeding conditions. The results confirm very good acceptance and digestibility of the tested ingredient in cats in comparison with the control diet,” Simone Stringhetti, clinical studies coordinator at BeneMeat, told Green Queen. The findings were published in a recent issue of Frontiers in Veterinary Science.
