In the Netherlands, a startup spun out of the Technical University of Delft has received €2 million ($2.2 million) in funding to advance its fermentation technology with partners in the US and Europe.
Delft Advanced Biorenewables has developed a new type of bioreactor that increases the yield of fermentation processes and lowers costs by enabling one reactor for both fermentation and separation—which in most technologies are successive processes.
“The most important value of DAB technology is the ability to increase fermentation productivity by more than two-fold while at the same time reducing operating costs by 50%,” DAB says. The technology can also be retrofitted into existing facilities. The funds were contributed by InnovationQuarter.
