In New Hampshire, Tuckaway Farms owner Dorn Cox demonstrates how he uses technology including precision ag, his smartphone, and drones to help run his farm. Cox told CNBC “Agriculture isn’t rocket science. It’s actually quite a bit more complex.” He uses a variety of technology to manage his farm operations including a smartphone app to coordinate food deliveries and requests with 75 restaurants that purchase produce and meat from his farm. The app helps Cox ensure the restaurants get just the right amount of what they need freshly picked just a day or two before they need it. He also uses drone technology to gather data from his fields and software that analyzes the data to help him make decisions about his farm.

The result of such increased use of technology by farmers like Cox is leading to a high demand for college graduates with agriculture degrees, particularly those that integrate technology and engineering into their agriculture studies.
