Vietnam refinery blends tire and plastic oils into marine fuel

April 23, 2026 |

In Vietnam, Vietnam Plus reports that state-owned refiner Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical JSC has begun producing marine fuel at its Dung Quat Refinery by blending in pyrolysis oil derived from waste tires and plastics, with its first trial batch delivered in January to a vessel operated by the Petrovietnam Transportation Corporation.

The refinery now produces 12,000 to 15,000 tonnes of the blended fuel a month. Vietnam’s push is driven by a Politburo resolution targeting energy security and emissions reductions through 2030.
