Vale charters two ethanol-powered vessels for iron ore shipping
In Brazil, Reuters reports Vale has agreed to charter new ethanol-powered Guaibamax grade vessels from Shandong Shipping Corporation, the first of which will be ready for commissioning before the end of the decade. The 25-year charter agreement is set to reduce iron ore shipping emissions by 90% in the first ever charter for vessels whose main fuel is ethanol. The agreement includes an option for additional vessels beyond the two that have now been ordered.
