US wants IMO to only look at ILUC for ethanol in region where it’s produced
In Switzerland, despite in March the US pushing the International Martime Organization to delay its decision on net zero goals until next year, it has now proposed that emissions associated with indirect land use change should only apply within the boundaries of a project, in hopes to push for ethanol use in marine fuels. By limiting the ILUC to a region where the ethanol is produced, corn grown in the Midwest would have little land use change whereas that produced in Brazil and Asia could have more ILUC attached, under the proposal brought forward by the US.
