UK Government urged to select HyNet as first hydrogen network

May 7, 2026 |

In the UK, Renewable Energy Magazine reported that a collective of over 40 organizations have sent a letter to the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband MP, urging the UK Government to select HyNet as the country’s first regional hydrogen network.

Over 40 companies, employing over 9,000 people across nine sectors, are seeking to connect to HyNet, to give themselves a competitive edge in the global market for low carbon-products, and to deliver the Government’s Clean Power 2030 Mission, according to the report.

The open letter highlights the hydrogen demonstrations which have already taken place – in sectors from glass manufacturing to aluminum recycling – which give North West manufacturers a head-start in switching to low-carbon production, it added.
