Topsoe and Preem complete renewable fuel campaign, produce renewable diesel and SAF
In India, BioEnergy Times reported that Topsoe and Swedish refiner Preem have completed a co-processing campaign at Preem’s Gothenburg refinery, producing renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel as part of efforts to expand lower-carbon fuel production using existing refining infrastructure.
The trial involved processing waste- and residue-based lipids together with conventional refinery feedstocks, demonstrating that existing hydrotreating units can be adapted to support large-scale production of renewable fuels, according to the report.
According to the companies, the campaign highlights the ability of conventional refining assets to integrate renewable feedstocks while reducing the carbon intensity of fuel production.
For the project, Topsoe provided its HydroFlex technology, which allows refiners to process biogenic feedstocks within existing refinery systems without requiring major infrastructure modifications.
