Técnicas Reunidas extends its presence in Africa with hydrogen project in Ethiopia
In Spain, the multinational group Dangote has awarded Técnicas Reunidas a contract to supply two hydrogen production reformers for the new ammonia and urea fertilizer complex it is developing in Gode, Ethiopia.
Dangote is a large industrial conglomerate founded in 1978, headquartered in Nigeria, with operations in 17 African countries. It engages in a diversified range of activities across sectors such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, cement, automotive, real estate, and more.
The goal of the plant being developed in Gode is to utilize Ethiopia’s natural gas reserves to manufacture fertilizers, reduce dependence on imports and foreign currency expenditures, and strengthen the country’s agricultural supply. It will have a production capacity of 3 million tons of urea fertilizer annually, which will also allow it to meet the demand of neighboring markets.
The contract awarded to Técnicas Reunidas includes the design, procurement, manufacture and FOB (free on board) supply of two reformers for the production of hydrogen that is necessary for the generation of ammonia and urea at the plant.
