Tata Consulting Engineers commissions India’s first rice/biomass biorefinery
In India, Tata Consulting Engineers marked the commissioning of India’s first rice/biomass integrated bioethanol refinery in Odisha. The facility combines first-generation and second-generation technologies to produce ethanol from broken rice grains and agricultural residues such as paddy and wheat straw. With a capacity of 100 kilolitres per day, the plant supports the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme and promotes the use of renewable fuel to reduce carbon emissions and address environmental concerns.
Tata Consulting Engineers acted as the Owner’s Engineer and Project Consultant, delivering end-to-end engineering and project management services. The scope included conceptual and detailed design, procurement support, construction-phase assistance, and commissioning. TCE provided integrated engineering across civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines, ensuring seamless coordination between process licensors and equipment suppliers.
