Sungrow to deliver 110 MW of electrolyzers for Atome in Paraguay
In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that green fertilizer projects developer Atome has picked Sungrow Hydrogen to deliver 110 MW of alkaline electrolyzer technology for its flagship low-carbon fertilizer project at Villeta, Paraguay.
Sungrow’s technology was selected through a competitive tender process run by Casale SA, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the Villeta Project. In addition to the supply, the Chinese firm has also sealed a long-term service agreement to provide maintenance support for the equipment.
The electrolyzers will be powered by 100% renewable baseload hydropower from the Itaipu Dam to produce the green hydrogen needed to deliver 260,000 tons of low-carbon calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizer per year, according to the report.
Atome took a final investment decision (FID) on the project in April. The initiative is supported by a total of $665 million in debt and equity financing. The site targets full-scale operations by or before October 2029.
