Spanish government approves $520M for renewable H2 projects

February 25, 2026 |

In Spain, the Spanish government has adapted the regulatory rules of green hydrogen aid and approved the new rules for the decarbonization of industrial heat within European auctions as a service. In its second participation in the European Hydrogen Bank’s AaaS scheme, Spain will contribute €440.5 million to finance more national renewable H2 production projects.

It also will contribute €50 million to the first European auction of Industrial Decarbonization, as an incentive to replace fossil fuels with electrification or direct use of renewable heat in industrial processes

Participation in the Innovation Fund’s (AaaS) auctions allows the countries to promote leading initiatives located in their territory that do not count as Community aid under EU rules.
