South Korea starts 500-GWh/year clean hydrogen power tender

November 5, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment opened the 2026 hydrogen power generation bidding market, setting bidding volumes of 500 GWh a year of clean hydrogen and 930 GWh a year of general hydrogen power generation.

The country’s hydrogen power bidding market is a mechanism for purchasing and supplying electricity generated using hydrogen or hydrogen compounds as fuel, according to the report.

The contract term for the clean hydrogen bidding market is 15 years. Power generation must start by 2030, with a grace period of up to three years for project delays to account for the construction periods of facilities designed for hydrogen co-firing or dedicated hydrogen firing.

Preferred bidders will be selected around June 2027, the ministry said.

Selection is based on price and non-price criteria, including the grade of clean hydrogen used, the stability of fuel procurement and contributions to the industry and economy.
