South Africa boosts green hydrogen push with industry-led training initiative

April 9, 2026 |

In India, BioEnergy Times reported that South Africa’s green hydrogen ambitions have received a major push with the launch of an industry-backed training system at Sasol’s operations in Sasolburg.

The initiative, developed jointly by the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority and Sasol, marks a key step in building the country’s capabilities in green hydrogen and preparing a skilled workforce for the emerging sector, according to the report.

The training system has been developed in partnership with Heliocentris. It includes a working 50W hydrogen fuel cell system that allows learners to directly engage with the technology and understand its functions through real-time experimentation, the report added.

The program also includes training in solar photovoltaic systems and hydrogen fundamentals. Officials said the system is aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial application, while ensuring training meets safety and industry standards.
