Sorghum planted area in the US is projected to decline in 2026, USDA says
In Missouri, Bronwfield reported that the USDA expects 6.12 million acres of sorghum to be planted this year, down 8% from last year.
Ongoing drought in the Plains likely had at least some impact on farmer planting intentions, with the biggest decreases coming in Kansas and Texas, according to the report.
The USDA said that farmers will plant 2.7 million acres of sorghum this year in Kansas, down 10% from 2025.
