Skarv gets its first ammonia- and methanol-ready ship
In Norway, Manifold Times reports Skarv Shipping Solutions has taken delivery of PEAK SKARV 1, the first vessel in a four-ship series built at Huanghai Shipbuilding in Weihai for North Europe’s shortsea market.
The 7,900 dwt multipurpose vessel was delivered on March 23 and is fitted with an optimized engine prepared for future ammonia or methanol use, alongside batteries, shore power, peak shaving and a dynamic propeller drive system. Its high-voltage switchboard is also set up for later additions such as fuel cells and more battery capacity. Skarv said the ship will load its first cargo in China before sailing to Europe, where it is due before summer.
PEAK SKARV 1 is the first newbuilding ordered under a contract Skarv signed with Huanghai two years ago for four 7,000 dwt multipurpose vessels, with options for four more. Skarv, a joint venture between Peak Group and Grieg Edge, also has a fifth vessel on order, a dual-fuel ammonia ship due for delivery in 2027 for commercial operation by Arriva Shipping.
