Singapore completes record bioethanol bunkering

October 22, 2026 |

In Singapore, Maersk, Golden Island and PSA Singapore completed the world’s largest single ethanol bunkering operation Oct. 17 at Pasir Panjang Terminal, supplying approximately 5,000 metric tons of ISCC certified bioethanol to the dual fuel container ship Maersk Halifax, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

The fuel was delivered from Golden Island’s chemical tanker Golden Centaurus using a mass flow meter, with container handling operations continuing alongside bunkering. The operation was Singapore’s first ethanol bunkering.

Preparations included hazard assessments, crew training in ethanol handling and emergency response procedures, drawing on experience from methanol bunkering. The operation will help authorities determine whether Singapore’s existing methanol bunkering standard and mass flow meter systems can accommodate ethanol.
