Shougang LanzaTech and Sinopec to advance off-gas-to-ethanol-to-SAF project in China
In Texas, Hydrocarbon Processing reported that Shougang LanzaTech has signed a cooperation agreement with Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing and Sinopec Ningbo Engineering to advance a 50,000-tpy industrial off-gas-to-ethanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel project in Shizuishan, Ningxia, China.
The partnership will combine Shougang LanzaTech’s microbial fermentation technology with Sinopec’s research and engineering capabilities to develop an integrated value chain spanning industrial off-gas conversion, green ethanol, biofuels and bio-based materials, the report stated.
Additional initiatives include research into carbon dioxide electro-conversion coupled with biological fermentation and the production of bio-based ethylene. The collaboration aims to expand feedstock sources, improve resource utilization and accelerate Shougang LanzaTech’s entry into the SAF market amid growing demand for lower-carbon aviation fuels, it added.
