Romania opens public comment period on $586.4M biofuel support scheme
In Romania, the Ministry of Energy has opened a public consultation regarding the State aid scheme to support investments in the production of biofuels, with a total estimated budget of EUR 500 million, with financing provided by the Modernization Fund, under the Key Programme no. 8: Alternative fuels – Support for the production of biofuels/biofuels. The scheme aims to support investments in new production capacities for biofuels, made from the raw materials set out in Annex IX of Directive (EU) 2018/2001, as subsequently amended and supplemented, respectively for the production of bioethanol, SAF – Sustainable Aviation Fuel and HVO – Renewable Diesel.
With this scheme, the Ministry of Energy aims to increase national production of alternative fuels, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support investments that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. The estimated budget of the scheme is structured as follows:
EUR 100 million for bioethanol production capacities with a minimum targeted capacity of 50,000 tons/year;
EUR 400 million for SAF + HVO production capacities, with a minimum targeted capacity of 20,000 tons/year SAF and 90,000 tons/year HVO.
