Recent rains prevent a drop in soybean productivity in Argentina: exchange says

March 1, 2026 |

In Argentina, Reuters reported that rainfall in central and northern Argentina over the past week brought relief to the 2025/26 soybean crop, preventing cuts in productivity estimates, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BdeC) said .

“Rainfall has been recorded in the central and northern agricultural area, with marked spatial heterogeneity and events of varying intensity,” said the BdeC in its weekly crop report, referring to rains that occurred in recent days.

Thus, the total area planted with soybeans with optimal to adequate water conditions grew to 66%, 10 percentage points higher than last week, according to the Exchange. This “allows for maintaining potential yields in some cases and avoiding further losses in others.”

The BdeC estimates Argentina’s soybean production, the world’s leading exporter of soybean oil and meal, at 48.5 million tons.
