PurposeEnergy opens $40 million food-waste-to-biogas facility in Ohio
In Ohio, Food Engine News PurposeEnergy has commissioned a facility costing more than $40 million in Minster, Ohio, to process food-industry wastewater and organic residuals into renewable biogas, treated water and nutrient-rich soil amendments. The plant receives waste directly from Danone USA’s largest US yogurt manufacturing facility and other regional food and beverage producers. Designed to handle up to 250,000 gallons per day, it is expected to produce approximately 50,000 MMBtu of biogas annually at full operation. The gas will supply a dedicated boiler at Danone’s plant, displacing natural gas and avoiding an estimated 3,200 US tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually.
