March 31, 2026 |

In Poland, Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) and Hekla Energy have entered into a strategic agreement for the sale and trading of electricity generated from biogas. In the first year of cooperation, more than 200 GWh of green energy will be added to Hekla Energy’s portfolio, representing over 15 percent of Poland’s agricultural biogas-based electricity production. The agreement supports the European Union’s energy transition goals and enhances energy security for consumers.

It covers the sale of electricity from nearly all of PGB’s operating and newly constructed biogas plants. The contract marks the first agreement in Poland’s history for the large-scale sale of electricity generated from agricultural biogas. Polska Grupa Biogazowa currently operates 21 biogas plants with a total installed capacity of 22.5 MW, producing approximately 200 GWh of electricity annually. It is also a leader in biogas plant management, building on many years of experience and innovative technological solutions. All operating facilities are supervised from the Monitoring and Analysis Center (CMA), a solution unique in Europe, enabling remote monitoring and control of biogas plant operations.
