July 3, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that the Polish city of Suwalki has broken ground on a waste-to-energy plant with a total capacity of 7 MW, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management announced.

Financing for the installation was granted by the national eco-fund under the “Use of Alternative Fuels for Energy Purposes” program of the Modernization Fund. The project has a total value of $54 million, according to the report.

The facility is being built in the northeastern Podlaskie province, near the biomass-fuelled PEC Suwalki heating plant, which will enable the generated heat to be fed into the network. The project will process 19,500 tons of sorted and unsorted waste annually, the report added.
