Pertamina turns used cooking oil into sustainable jet fuel

In Indonesia, Antara reported that PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, the commercial and trading subholding of state-owned energy company Pertamina, is converting used cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel.

Pertamina Patra Niaga Vice President Director Taufik Aditiyawarman said the company’s SAF project uses household waste oil as feedstock at its Cilacap Green Refinery in Central Java.

The project uses the refinery’s thermal distillate hydro-treating (TDHT) unit to process used cooking oil alongside other feedstocks, according to the report.

“We have reached the commercial production stage at the Cilacap Green Refinery, producing about 11 million liters of co-processed SAF this October,” Taufik said.

Used cooking oil accounts for a maximum of 5 percent of the TDHT unit’s total production capacity, he said.
